Dolls are one of the finest arts of Nepal. Nepalese dolls show traditional costumes of different ethnic groups, in miniature, Dolls are made of cotton, clay, wood and decorated with metal for jewelry. These dolls symbolize the two different castes of Nepal. Lama and Jyapu. Lamas are Buddhist monks who plays vital role in Buddhist community. They are important for different ceremony or rituals. They are peace lovers and reside in the high Himalayan part of Nepal. They wear a special kind of dress yellow silk full shirts and dark red cloth which they wrap below the waist for the replacement of the pant. Here you can see that this lama is wearing a woolen cap and carrying spiritual wheel or “Mala” which they use most of the time praying for peace and for the sake of good health of the people. The other one (right) is Jyapu. Jyapu is one of the popular castes of Nepal. They live in Kathmandu valley. Jyapu are rich in their culture. They love to dance and sing in their different kind of celebrations. Here you can see that the male Jyapu is wearing a “Dhaka Topi” (cap) with his costume and carrying a “Dholak”, popular musical instrument of Nepal which is used in most of the occasions or celebrations in Nepal. This beautifully dressed piece of art is perfect for decoration.
